Wouldn't And Would
By Mary Mapes Dodge
I wouldn't be a growler, I wouldn't be a bear;
I wouldn't be an owlet, always on a stare;
I wouldn't be a monkey, doing foolish tricks;
I wouldn't be a donkey, full of sullen kicks.
I wouldn't be a goose,
Nor a peacock full of pride,
But I would be a big boy,
With a pocket on each side.
