The Flower Of Love
By James Nack
That we for riper years should stay,
Though coldly thou declarest,
I tell thee, in the bloom of May
The flower of love is fairest.
All who have loved must know the truth
That love with time is flying;
It blooms but in the bloom of youth,
Its power with beauty dying.
To beauty, by her magic strung,
Love consecrates his lyre,
And none, except the fair and young,
Its accents can inspire.
That we for riper years should stay,
Though coldly thou declarest,
I tell thee in the bloom of May
The flower of love is fairest!
