Two Stanzas

By Anne Whitney

Seem I beyond thy reach of eye
Or lip, mailed in the arrogance
Of life? -- O friend, withhold no glance
Of love or word of courtesy!

Ponder with carefulness, and own
All win as thou -- are as thou art --
Think of the beggar in the heart --
Think what the silent stars have known.
